Jogging Stroller Review

We’ve taken a look at four great full size strollers but another option either instead of, or, in addition to a full size stroller is a jogging stroller.  In our jogging stroller review, we take a look at three great options that may work for your lifestyle.  It is important to know that, effectively, there are two types of jogging strollers – those with fixed front wheels and those with swiveling front wheels.  The fixed front wheel seriously decreases maneuverability but incases stability which is key for jogging.  Swivel front wheels allow for more maneuverability and arguably, functionality outside of jogging.  Two of the three strollers we review have swivel front wheels that can lock in place for jogging or tackling more serious terrain.  Ultimately, it comes down to your lifestyle when choosing a jogging stroller.  Which one are you registered for or which one do you have?  We’d love to hear your thoughts!

BOB Revolution CE

Shown in Black
www.bobgear.com

Stroller Weight: 23 pounds
The Wise Baby Rating:

Highlights:  The Revolution comes in two models – the CE or City Experience (shown) which has aluminum alloy rims and the SE or Sport Experience with polymer wheels.  Parents rave about the excellent handling and maneuverability of the Revolution.  This is due largely to the swiveling front wheel which can also lock in place for serious running or rougher terrain.  The swiveling front wheel allows the Revolution to be used in other “non-jogging” environments. Further parents love the large canopy, comfortable seat and ample storage space the Revolution has to offer.

Lowlights:  There isn’t terribly too much bad to say about the Revolution.  Parents complain the Revolution does not have an adjustable handlebar or a brake on the handlebar like other competing brands.  Further, the Revolution does not come come with any accessories and they must be purchased separately which increases your overall investment.

Bottom Line:  The Revolution CE/SE gets a five out of five rating.  Its hard to beat the maneuverability and functionality of the Revolution- not to mention the unmatched quality of BOB products.

Terrain Buggy by Mountain Buggy

Shown in Flint

Stroller Weight: 29 pounds
The Wise Baby Rating:

Highlights:  Overall the Terrain gets very positive feedback from parents as both a stroller that works well for jogging as well as all terrain environments.  The Terrain’s front wheel can lock in place which is best suited for joggers but can also be left adjustable making it easier to maneuver around town. The handlebar on the Terrain is adjustable and the seat fully reclines (the only stroller in this review with that feature) to accommodate newborns.  Although, it is not recommended you jog with newborns.  Parents love the effortless push, large canopy, handlebar brake and the fact the Terrain comes with cup holders.

Lowlights:  The Terrain is on the heavy side (even for a jogging stroller) and its fold is not as compact as some other jogging strollers – so much so you may want to measure your trunk space to make sure it will fit.  Although the front wheel locks in place, many parents complain the wheel still “wiggles” back and forth which is not ideal for the precision expected for jogging.

Bottom Line:  The Terrain gets a four out of five rating.  The Terrain is well constructed and durable and as long as you can live with the lowlights we see no reason you shouldn’t purchase this stroller.

BOB Ironman

Shown in Yellow
www.bobgear.com

Stroller Weight: 23 pounds
The Wise Baby Rating:

Highlights:  The BOB Ironman, with its fixed front wheel, is ideal for serious runners.  Parents rave about the seriously smooth ride which is thanks to the supped up suspension.  The lightweight wheels and aluminum frame make the stroller easy to push whether you ar running next to or behind the stroller.  The bicycle type handlebar brake give you added control and security, especially when going down steep hills.  For a jogging stroller, the Ironman is lightweight and its easy fold makes it workable for even the most urban environments. Lastly, parents love the large canopy and comfortable and reclinable seat.  The Ironman has a car seat adapter for most major brands and can also be used as a double stroller.

Lowlights:  As we have discussed, the Ironman is best suited for running/jogging.  It is not suited for maneuvering around town, the mall or the grocery store.  The number one complaint from parents is the maneuverability.  The only other major compliant this Ironman gets from parents is the lack of an adjustable handlebar.  Although, most parents don’t seem to think this is a big problem.

Bottom Line:  Hands down, the BOB Ironman is the best stroller for serious runners and for that reason it gets a five out of five rating.  After all, it is the official stroller of Ironman and we can’t argue with that!
